NEXTT Golf Pulse Ladies’ 16-piece Golf Set (Graphite)

Women have already made great names in Golf and more and more Golfers are appearing on the champions list. Here are few tips for female golfers which could help the women or men who want to teach the game to their friends or family.

Golf for Women Challenge #1 - Putting

A common misconceptions about elite golfers is that men are better ball strikers and the women are better at short game. This is not true at all

According to the actual statistics, men are better putters and women are better ball strikers. It is found that amateur golfer women often complain of too many 3 putts, and/or missing short putts.

What can be done about this here are tips to help you improve your putting.

I also created golf training aids specifically designed to help with your putting technique.

Putting Stroke Mechanics

NEXTT Golf Pulse Ladies' 16-piece Golf Set (Graphite)The keys to a sound putting stroke can be summed up in two words: stability and squareness.
To improve your putting, the first thing that you need to do is to solidify your stroke mechanics. Everything that you need to know about a great putting stroke can be summed up in two words: Stability & Squareness.
See how our Golf IQ Putting Package can help you achieve both.

Stability
Stability in the grip To allow your arms and the putter to work as one unit you need to make sure that you have a stable hold on the club. Many of putting’s most common problems include pushes, pulls, and the yips can be traced back to an unstable hold on the club.

Unlike the full swing grip, which is designed to create speed, the putting grip is designed to promote stability throughout the stroke. Unlike conventional putting instruction, I believe that the putter should be held primarily in the fingersand not in the lifeline of your palm as recommended by most instructors. Holding the club in the fingers promotes better feel for the putter head which will ultimately promote more stability throughout the stroke. You should know that a finger grip on the putter is preferred by two of golf’s best putters: Dave Stockton and Tiger Woods and it is tough to argue with their success.

Women’s major golf championships
a-woman-golferWomen’s golf has evolved a set of major championships which parallels that in men’s golf, but the women’s system is younger and has been less stable than the men’s. Many professional stroke play events for women are played over three rounds (54 holes), but the majors are played over four rounds (72 holes), which is the standard length of regular men’s tournaments. This is the same distinction as for senior men’s tournaments

The LPGA replaced the du Maurier Classic on its list of majors with the Women’s British Open. The LPGA currently recognizes four majors. In the order in which they are played each year these are:

Kraft Nabisco Championship
LPGA Championship
U.S. Women’s Open
Women’s British Open

Brazilian Wife Scams - Beware.

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Latin womenInternet romance has become one of the most popular ways to meet a future partner or a mate for few nights, it is not always that safe. It is important that those who meet via the Internet, particularly in long distance relationships specialy those from distinctly different cultures and values, need to take extra bit of care in protecting themselves from the very small minority that are abusing this great medium of meeting people.

Recently a very sad case hit international headlines. A US musician, Raymond Merrill, had got acquinted with a Brazilian womanfrom Sao Jose dos Campos in São Paulo state Brazil, via an Internet dating site. Mr. Merrill had already visited the girl in Brazil several times, lavishing gifts on her including a car, and back in April came for another trip after having been called by the Brazilian Girl to come immediatly to Brazil. Unbeknownst to Merrill, The girl took the pin numbers of his credit cards and with the help of her actual boy friend from Brazil strangled him to death with a cable and cremated the body to wipe out the crime.

Mr. Merrill‘s sister reported the US police after a month of frantic communication attempts with her brother, but although an investigation was launched and Merrill‘s bank accounts were found to be drained, neither the body was linked to the crime or the girl was identified.

The girl was apprehended by Brazilian Police in São Paulo when committing another similar robbery in June, and Merrell‘s credit card was found with her. Brazilian police made the connection and she was arrested for the murder, and the body was exhumed for DNA tests.

Of course such Internet dating scams are not new, nor are similar romance related scams. Rio de Janeiro is one area in Brazil, particularly in places like Ipanema and some particular bars/clubs there, where garotas de programa (prostitutes) scam arguably naive foreign men who come to Brazil for work or tourism.

It is always a good idea to be vigilant and trust only the good quality web sites. The golden rule for avoiding problems is to remember is to use common sense. If you travel to Brazil make sure to let your friends and family know where you are going and try to contact them regularly. Make sure to tell them where you are staying and keep the contact numbers the address details of the person you‘ve arranged to meet with your family. If you cant get these details from your future mate that should already be a warning sign.

If friends and family don‘t speak the local language of place you are going, try and find someone else in the area they can contact who speaks a suitable language as a backup.

Try to not expose yourself too much and keep all your belongings hidden and also Make sure you have backup plans on where to stay if there are relationship problems, and banks and credit card companies are advised of any withdrawal limits while you‘re away.

With Internet based relationships, keep an eye out for other warning signs as well, such as requests for money and gifts, or erratic and volatile behaviour.

Although it can be difficult in the initial throes of a relationship, try and take a step back and think about whether you feel things are making sense.

Council may force last residents to sell up homes for Donald Trump’s £1bn golf resort

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

COUNCILLORS have refused to rule out resorting to compulsory purchase orders to move people from the estate where Donald Trump plans to build a £1bn golf resort.

Four homeowners have so far refused to sell up to allow the billionaire to develop the Meni estate, near Balmedie, Aberdeenshire.

But today, Aberdeenshire councillors have actually refused to rule out using the orders to force the residents to sell up their homes for the Golf Resort.

Councillors, did however, say ut would be inappropriate to resort to the measure wihout a full report.

The homeowners were disappointed by the decision with Menie resident David Milne branding the decision “a disgrace” and saying it was “based on cowardice”.

Scores of people had turned up at the meeting in Aberdeen to protest over Trump’s plans for the estate.

Trump’s organistaion has offered the last homeowners a 15 per cent premium above their house’s market value and the chance to buy a new home on the estate at cost price.

Tiger Woods becomes sport’s first billionaire

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

tiger-woods-with-wife-and-kidTiger Woods has passed the billion dollar mark after winning the FedEx Cup this year. He was rewarded a $10 million retirement annuity by the shipping company.

How did a golfer ever get so rich? According to Forbes, Tiger Woods has become the first person to make a billion dollars out of a career in sport. The magazine has calculated Woods’s earnings since he turned professional in 1996, and worked out that, after he earned $10m for winning the FedEx Cup this year, the combined tally of prize money, appearance fees, endorsements, and earnings from his flourishing golf design business has now surpassed the billion dollar barrier.

Woods, who is only 33 and could conceivably keep playing at the top level for the next 15 years, has won 14 Major titles, and is able to charge up to $3m for playing tournaments in the Middle East. Sharply-dressed, well-behaved and, if a little private, a marketing man’s dream, he’s signed numerous lucrative endorsement deals.

Since the “I’m Tiger Woods” advertising campaign, his profile has allowed Nike, which was starting from scratch, to turn into a major name in the golf equipment and clothing industry. Woods has a drink named after him – ‘Gatorade Tiger’, and helped to design a special watch for Tag Heuer, which is able to resist the sort of shock you get from a golf swing gone wrong. He also has deals with the management consultants Accenture, Electronic Arts video games and, along with Roger Federer and Thierry Henry, Gillette razors.

tiger-woods-with-obamaAlso, by linking up with property deals, he can charge an awful lot for the courses that his company – Tiger Woods Design – is making in Dubai, North Carolina and Mexico.

The only two other sportsmen to have made anywhere near as much money as Woods are Michael Jordan and Michael Schumacher. Despite his retirement, the basketball player still commands $45million a year, much of it from his work endorsing Nike, and Forbes estimates that he’s earned around $800 million since he first started out in the NBA in 1984.

As for Schumacher, the German F1 driver who briefly threatened an astonishing comeback this season, he has made something like $700m over his career, and once earned $80m a season at a time when he was winning the F1 Driver’s Championship for fun

Woods Seven Shots off Lead at Deutsche Bank Golf in Boston

Friday, September 4th, 2009

tiger-woodsSept. 4 (Bloomberg) Tiger Woods continues to struggle with his putter and sits seven shots off the lead during the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Woods finished at 1-under par today at the TPC Boston course in Norton, Massachusetts, where Steve Stricker leads at 8-under. Woods and Stricker, the top two players in the U.S. PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoff points standings, were paired together in the same group.

Woods, who missed a seven-foot putt on the final hole of last week’s Barclays tournament, needed 30 putts over 18 holes today, ranking 83rd in the field. Stricker’s 25 putts ranked 53rd.

Four players, including Masters Tournament champion Angel Cabrera, are tied for second at 6-under, one shot ahead of Jerry Kelly, Troy Matteson and Jim Furyk. Heath Slocum, who won last week’s playoff-opening Barclays tournament in New Jersey, is 3- under through 13 holes.

Woods won the inaugural FedEx Cup title in 2007, while Vijay Singh claimed it last season. Singh, the defending Deutsche Bank Championship winner, has yet to begin play.

After this week, the top 70 players in the points standings head to the BMW Championship in Chicago. The top 30 then advance to the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta, with the overall winner earning $10 million.

Olympics could take golf to new places

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

It’s not that this is golf’s first dance with the Olympic Games, and there are pros and there are cons. From his fishing boat in Wyoming, where the brown trout were striking, Billy Payne spoke enthusiastically.

“I’m excited about it. I’m an advocate of spreading the game around the world, and what better way than through the Olympic Games,” said Payne, the president of Augusta National, which one might describe as the heartbeat of golf in this country.

From his summer home in the Grand Tetons, Payne had hardly had time to digest the news from the IOC executive committee meeting in Berlin. And that Tiger Woods and Anika Sorenstam, among others, were among vigorous supporters. Exciting stuff to Payne, the man who had brought the Olympics to Atlanta in 1996.

Golf was on his hope list of events, and Augusta National would have been the site, although he was not yet a member of the club. But, opposition arose not only from Juan Antonio Samaranch, then president of the IOC, but locally. One member of the city council presented a motion that would have, in effect, opposed it, and there was no chance, so the golf movement never got off the tee.

This is different, although golf, along with rugby, must still pass the full membership ballot. It is not surprising that the golfing clique is leaning heavily on Woods’ name as a major selling point. Payne, on the other hand, sees the Olympics as more than a short-term energizer for the game, but a way of reaching smaller countries in the world.

“What better way than through the Olympics. I wish we might have done in the Atlanta Games,” he said, “but it became apparent we didn’t have the support. What more attractive place to show golf to the world than Augusta National.”

Golf made its first, and only appearance on the Olympic schedule in 1904, when St. Louis was host to the Games. There were only two events, an individual and a team championship.

A Canadian, George Lyon, was the individual champion, and the USA swept the team trophies, led by Chandler Egan, one of the country’s more renowned amateurs. Golf never made the venue again. Should golf carry the membership vote, this might be a stroke in favor of Chicago, one of the bidding sites. Some of the countries finest courses are located in the area, Cog Hill, Medinah, Olympia Fields, Midlothian and Skokie, where historic championships have been held.

On the other hand, there are critics, such as one I just read that called it “a goofy move. Golf already has world championships, such as the Masters, the U.S. and British Open, and who would rather have an Olympic medal than a Masters Green Jacket?”

This misses Payne’s point.

“Think of the smaller countries of the world that golf might reach,” he said. “I’m excited about what it might mean to smaller nations where young people wouldn’t otherwise ever have a chance at the game.”
So there it stands — at the mercy of 105 IOC executive committee members.

“Cross your fingers,” Payne said.

Race to Dubai money cut no surprise for Westwood

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

AKRON, Ohio (Reuters) Speculation that the European Tour’s 2009 Race to Dubai will have its prize fund cut by as much as 25 percent has come as no surprise to Britain’s Lee Westwood.

The Guardian newspaper reported this week that the circuit’s season-ending Dubai World Championship would offer a purse of $7.5 million, down from the initial $10 million.

“It’s a reality check for everybody that in times like this — when there’s a credit crunch, people are struggling financially — nobody is immune,” Westwood told reporters on Wednesday.

“I heard before it all came out in the press that it was going from $10 million down to $7.5 million. That’s still a massive prize when you think about it. I think we’re lucky to be playing for that kind of money.”

The Race to Dubai was trumpeted as the world’s most lucrative golf competition when it was announced in November 2007.

Around 53 tournaments were to be played in 26 destinations before the $20 million finale, the Dubai World Championship at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai from November 19-22, 2009.

However Leisurecorp, the Dubai-based developer sponsoring the series, has since been severely affected by the economic global crisis.

Leisurecorp, which has plowed 100 million pounds into the tour this year as part of a five-year agreement, was taken over by the state-owned Nakheel in May.

“I can fully understand, and I’m pretty supportive in a way, that they (Leisurecorp) are still hanging in there,” added Westwood, who is competing in this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.

“We’re just lucky to be playing in big tournaments for that kind of money, full stop, never mind whether it’s $10 million or $7.5.”

Although the European Tour was not prepared to comment on the expected prize fund cuts, a spokesman said: “The agreement is proceeding as planned but (tour chief executive) George O’Grady will be making a visit to the region in the very near future.” (Editing by Alison Wildey)

The Open golf gets underwaywithout wind and rain

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Greg-Norman-with-sonEmbarking on my first British Open, I was of the understanding the weather would be wet and windy and the scoring tough but my week thus far has been spent in shorts and t-shirts at a surprisingly benign Turnberry.

As nice as it is for a roving reporter to be out in the warm sunshine, fielding questions to the world’s best golfers on one of Britain’s finest courses, it would be interesting to see the usual wind and rain to see how good these guys really are.

When Irishman Padraig Harrington retained the Claret Jug at Birkdale last year he did so after enduring a fierce battle with the elements as well as a strong field.

His ability to shoot a four-under-par 32 on the back nine whilst battling wind that was gusting above 50mph was golf of the highest order and a joy to watch, albeit on a television in the Reuters office.

This year I was expecting the same conditions but as it stands, with sunny weather, the Ailsa course’s generous fairways and flat greens could become a birdie fest which we have grown accustomed to on the PGA Tour.

The uniqueness of the Open is that it is an event which is like no other, played on a seaside links with hard and fast fairways and blustery conditions which give spectators a chance to see how skilful the best players have to be.

Right now it will be simple for the players to take aim at the pins and shoot low scores and while pros may enjoy the easy ride, many fans would like to see them tested.

Let’s see if mother nature does her stuff and we witness a typically brutal Open championship here in Scotland — and I will dig out the waterproofs.

Credit crunch hits golf fans as many turn away from Turnberry

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Open crowds have slumped by 13,000 this year as Turnberry’s remote Scottish location and the credit crunch hit home.

The first day attendance yesterday was 23,500, compared to 36,500 at Birkdale last year, but the R& A last night insisted it was pleased with the figures - which are up on the last time the Open was in Turnberry in 1994.

A spokesman said: “The Open is as popular as ever. “Birkdale has large cities nearby, and a good road network. It is impossible to compare the two venues.

“We have good ticket sales for the weekend, and we believe we are on track to get more fans through the gates than 14 years ago.”
