No athlete has changed his sport the way Tiger Woods has transformed the world of golf. The Tiger phenomenon has created a new legion of golfers, seduced by Woods’s almost effortless mastery of this most difficult game. In How I Play Golf Woods reveals the many facets of his game and offers a plethora of tips and advice aimed at all levels of play. Unlike most golf guides, and perhaps somewhat surprising from a player best known for his long game, How I Play Golf begins with the short game–putting, chipping, and pitching–before moving onto swing mechanics and hitting off the tee. Produced in conjunction with the editors of Golf Digest, the book is lavishly photographed and illustrated and offers a gold mine of useful ideas and mental images Tiger has collected over the years. Throughout, Tiger recounts memorable shots from his relatively brief career; for example, his only “perfect” shot (a 3-wood on No. 14 at St. Andrews) and his first putt at the 1995 Masters (a 20-footer for birdie on No. 1 that missed and rolled off the green). How I Play Golf is not only a first-rate instructional guide, it also communicates a passion and respect for the game that beginners, hackers, and low handicappers should find inspiring. Highly recommended. –Harry C. Edwards

If you would like a lot of nice pictures of Tiger, this is the book for you. If you think Tiger is really going to tell you how to swing a golf club, forget it. For correct and complete golf swing instruction, I recommend “The Golf Swing And Its Master Key Explained” by Noel Thomas.

Tiger Woods is a great player there is no doubt. His book is a great addition to the golf instruction world. I didn’t buy the book but I did read through it at the bookstore and I realized that much of what Tiger has to say is all based on the fundamentals. Nothing new. What most amateurs fail to realize is that Tiger Woods has worked his butt off mastering the fundamentals. All great athletes do that. Many weekend hackers will never break 100 because they fail to practice and master the fundamentals. Tiger Woods is known for his long game but it isn’t a mistake that he starts off with putting. The short game should make up about 60% of a person’t practice. I see so many people hitting hundreds of balls with their driver trying to hit the ball harder and longer but never work on their short game. My favorite player is Colin Montgomerie. I think he has the greatest swing in golf and is much more consistent than Tiger Woods. Let’s also not forget Ben Hogan.

We only see the glamour of success, the impossible putt, the droll delivery of a comic. What we don’t see is what this book can not give you. That is the mind-numbing tedium of practice and refinement of technique.
Buy this for advice, but a book on golf does not a golfer make.

I don’t play golf but I got this book to better understand why my friends love it so much. And I can see why, although you’ll never see me on a golf course. My friend is a huge fan of tiger woods so he ended up wih this book. Now he cannot play golf to save his life. But after him reading this he improved. Not only is this book good, as far as understanding tiger but to improve ones game.
