Golf for Women Challenge #1 - Putting

A common misconceptions about elite golfers is that men are better ball strikers and the women are better at short game. This is not true at all

According to the actual statistics, men are better putters and women are better ball strikers. It is found that amateur golfer women often complain of too many 3 putts, and/or missing short putts.

What can be done about this here are tips to help you improve your putting.

I also created golf training aids specifically designed to help with your putting technique.

Putting Stroke Mechanics

NEXTT Golf Pulse Ladies' 16-piece Golf Set (Graphite)The keys to a sound putting stroke can be summed up in two words: stability and squareness.
To improve your putting, the first thing that you need to do is to solidify your stroke mechanics. Everything that you need to know about a great putting stroke can be summed up in two words: Stability & Squareness.
See how our Golf IQ Putting Package can help you achieve both.

Stability
Stability in the grip To allow your arms and the putter to work as one unit you need to make sure that you have a stable hold on the club. Many of putting’s most common problems include pushes, pulls, and the yips can be traced back to an unstable hold on the club.

Unlike the full swing grip, which is designed to create speed, the putting grip is designed to promote stability throughout the stroke. Unlike conventional putting instruction, I believe that the putter should be held primarily in the fingersand not in the lifeline of your palm as recommended by most instructors. Holding the club in the fingers promotes better feel for the putter head which will ultimately promote more stability throughout the stroke. You should know that a finger grip on the putter is preferred by two of golf’s best putters: Dave Stockton and Tiger Woods and it is tough to argue with their success.

Women’s major golf championships
a-woman-golferWomen’s golf has evolved a set of major championships which parallels that in men’s golf, but the women’s system is younger and has been less stable than the men’s. Many professional stroke play events for women are played over three rounds (54 holes), but the majors are played over four rounds (72 holes), which is the standard length of regular men’s tournaments. This is the same distinction as for senior men’s tournaments

The LPGA replaced the du Maurier Classic on its list of majors with the Women’s British Open. The LPGA currently recognizes four majors. In the order in which they are played each year these are:

Kraft Nabisco Championship
LPGA Championship
U.S. Women’s Open
Women’s British Open
